I am incredibly excited to share these beautiful images from Nichola and Kevin’s wedding this past fall in New York. Im such a sucker for DIY wedding projects this and this wedding is filled with them. Lucky for us, Nichola was generous enough to share some of the details about the day:

We decided from the outset that we wanted to see if we could find a barn for our wedding. We definitely wanted to have some kind of outdoor component and thought a farm and barn would be a really nice setting. We live in Los Angeles, but we are both from the Northeast, so we thought having a barn wedding in October would be nice because we never get to experience fall in L.A. With the help of Kevin’s mom, we found Apple Barn Farm in upstate New York and it was exactly what we were looking for. We were able to decorate the barn how we wanted and the terrific staff helped us with all the legwork. We held the ceremony outdoors, which was beautiful because it was October and the leaves were changing. The cocktail hour was also outside and the reception was inside the barn.We wanted to keep a sort of informal feel so we had a buffet dinner and our guests were able to mill around in the barn, outside on the porch, or at a bonfire we had outside.Outside, we put apples from the farm into the flower urns as decoration.

In terms of the DIY things we did, there were a lot of them! We really like to make stuff so we sort of went crazy when it came to the wedding. We did all the flowers for the tables ourselves. Since it was fall we used a lot of orange and brown in our overall pallette, and we wanted orange dahlias for the centerpieces. We ordered them in bulk and made all the centerpieces ourselves with the flowers and some red berries that we found. The bouquets I ordered from a florist. We made table runners for the long tables by using a stencil to paint a design onto butcher paper. We also made place cards and table numbers by Gocco-ing images of birds and a barn onto cards and then writing peoples’ names on them. Also, we had a table set up at the front of the barn where people could sign our guest book. On that table we put branches into an urn. The branches had small leaves that we cut out of a veneer and wrote everyone’s name and table number on. Finally, I knitted two birds to sit in the branches, one in white and one in brown because Kevin wore a brown suit.

Also, our moms got in on the DIY action. My mom made our cake and knitted the sweater that I wore during the ceremony. And Kevin’s mom made the apple butter that we gave out as favors. Our invitiations and save the date cards were our biggest DIY project, though. For the invitations we used a Gocco and bought the paper and envelopes from Papersource. Kevin designed them and we both printed them.

Wow! Thank you so much Nichola and Kevin for sharing your incredible day with us. I hope everyone has a great weekend and I will see you here next week with more real weddings and vendor features!
