Elegant Ranch Wedding Ideas

When selecting a setting and arrangements for a romantic design, I believe keeping the elements simple and organic provides the necessary palette for a whimsical affair.  At this shoot, Odalys Mendez gracefully captured the warmth and natural beauty of the farm setting, which set the tone.  The darling Austin Healey car inspired the choice of English garden flowers to adorn a lush garland draped across the back of the car. The pop of dark florals juxtaposed against the lighter shades of pink added a delightful touch by Holly Carlisle. With its soft, airy lines and classic elegance, the gown from Ines Di Santo was a luxurious choice to tie the design together.

Crown Braid Chignon Tutorial

braid-wedding-hairstyles

One of our most popular pins from yesterday’s Springtime Maidens story is the pretty hairstyle of one of our lovely bridesmaids, so I’m thrilled to share the tutorial on how to recreate this crown braid chignon at home. This wedding hairstyle for long hair is particularly lovely because it incorporate the french braid and chignon. Please let us know how it goes if you try this wedding hairstyle for long hair at home. Enjoy!

1. French braid front section of hair from one ear to the other. Leave end of braid out until Step 7.

2. Take the top section of hair, tease it and pin securely with bobby pins creating a half up – half down look.

3. Then starting on one side of the hair take a section of hair, twist it and bring it the opposite side and pin it with bobby pins. Make sure to cover the previously secured bobby pins from Step 1.

4. + 5. Then take the remaining “tail” from the section of hair just pinned with an additional section of hair, creating one section of hair, twist and bring it the opposite side and pin securely with bobby pins directly under the previous twist.

6. Repeat the process until there is no longer any more sections on either side and you are left with just the “tails”.

7. + 8. Pin the remaining “tails” by twisting and overlapping, mimicking the overlap twist look.

9. + 10.  After all hair is twisted and pinned, bring the braid into the back and secure with bobby pins. Making the “tail” of the braid mimic the already pinned twists.

11. After all is hair and braid is pinned securely, gently tug at hair creating a looser more full look.

Springtime Maidens

There is something quite sacred about the morning hours a bride spends with her maidens. The shared excitement and anticipation can be heard in every laugh and often shown through joyful tears. This shoot was designed to inspire a bridal party to savor these final moments together. We can easily succumb to chaos when a group of girls frantically get ready, but if we slow that process down and create a sensual environment for them, these precious moments can remain engrained in their memories, becoming a part of the magical process leading up to a ceremony.

Winter Wedding Centerpieces

winter-wedding-centerpieces

A winter centerpiece with peach amaryllis, garden roses, and ranunculus, gold and wine-colored orchids, and an unruly assortment of foraged goods created by Joy Thigpen at her workshop in January to demonstrate how to create flower arrangements for the attendees. After some instruction the group was sent out to give it a go themselves. We were so impressed with their work we wanted to share a few with you here!

So good, right??? AND today Joy is actually announcing 3 more workshops for the year. One will be a repeat of the January workshop which covers all the basics of Creative Direction + Styling and then she’s adding two new ones–an Advanced workshop for those who have taken one of her workshops already or have had other experience and a Crash Course on Styling for wedding photographers so they can take their work to the next level, even when they don’t get to work with a stylist.
