Simple and Elegant Outdoor Wedding

We at Once Wed are always fans of the simple, understated, and elegant, and wedding design is no exception. While this vine-strewn table is incredibly simple, it is completely and utterly enough. Repeated taper candles accent the length of the wood table, beautifully calligraphed menus and place cards bring an air of elegance, and we cannot say enough about this amazing outdoor location. The rough stone walls are just amazing, and as the photographer of this shoot tells us, those walls were a major component of the design for this wedding shoot. Read on for more!

Read on for more from the photographer, Amelia Johnson:
“For me the mood of a wedding begins with location. Location can be transformative, infusing the event with a certain majestic sweep and grandeur. The components of a wedding day must support each other; must advance the styling narrative. In keeping with the subdued color palette of the venue, aged blushes, and vine-ripened greens adorn the table. Candlelight invites close conversation in hushed tones. The delicate repeat of textured petals on the gown mimic the organic rhythm of the stone structure. Harmony is found when all design elements whisper the same sweet story.”

Musical Engagement Session in Big Sur

Over the last few years, it’s been absolutely wonderful to see how couples have begun to personalize their wedding planning experience, forgoing tradition for tradition’s sake. This engagement session was a part of a recent photography workshop, with a musical couple who spent their time in front of the camera as they would have spent their time on any other day: jamming, laughing and enjoying their time. Read on for more!

More from the photographer, Brian Whitt:
“On the last day of the Forage and Fern Workshop, we joined the creative instructors to photograph a beautiful and intimate scene between this real couple and musical duo, Casey and Lionel. As they looked out on the California Coastal waters of Big Sur, we had them interact and play music together without interruption. The photos capture them authentically as a playful and affectionate couple. Simple elements and minimal directing allowed them to shine in these meaningful engagement styled photos. I hope you feel inspired to create beautiful and meaningful photos for your engagement! “
