We often encourage brides to take a few hours the day of their wedding to relax, take time for themselves, and most importantly soak in the day before the madness of the wedding begins. Lauren Balingit and Kelly Lenard were inspired by something similar in their recent trip to Montana. Keep reading about their inspiration for this lovely outdoor lake session.

From Lauren:

Kelly and I traveled to Montana a few months ago, and we were touched by the abundance of peace we felt.  Kelly and I were really inspired by the idea of taking time for yourself before your wedding day. Among all of the stress that planning a wedding can bring, we feel that you don’t need to relax only after the ceremony is over, but before it even happens. Your last few days of single life go by so fast, so take a few hours, or even a day to breathe and soak in such a special time preparing to marry the one you love.

It may be cold, dreary and dull outdoors now, but winter means we’re starting to see fall weddings roll into our inbox. This relaxed autumn vineyard wedding from Ben Christensen make us want to snuggle up with a blanket and a nice bottle of wine outdoors. Keep reading for more from the bride about her beautiful fall wedding.

From the Bride:

Erik and I met at a dive bar exactly two weeks after I landed in San Francisco from New York City. I know neither of us were expecting much out of the night by way of romance (the theme that night was “Booty Bassment”), but the unlikely locale ended up setting the scene for a rather fateful evening. Erik walked up to me and introduced himself and we ended up talking for the rest of the night. He called (called! not texted!) a few days later to ask if he could take me out; he was a total gentleman. About two years later we were engaged.

We knew from the beginning that we wanted to have the wedding in northern California. It is where our relationship had began and grew, plus it is insanely beautiful. Erik is from Michigan and I am from North Carolina, so we knew many of our guests would be traveling long distances to attend. For that reason, we set out to make the entire weekend as organized and enjoyable as possible – we wanted our friends and family to really feel like they were on vacation.

Planning began with choosing our venue, which ended up being the most difficult part of the entire process. I swear the Bay Area has one billion amazing (albeit expensive) places to get married. Fortunately, we were already friends with our wedding planner, Gillian Shenon, as she had been my sister’s roommate the year we got engaged. Gllian helped us navigate city vs. wine country vs. redwoods vs. seashore. We wanted to make logistics as simple as possible for our guests, so it seemed like the city was the best answer, until we saw…Campovida.

Campovida is an organic farm and working vineyard in Mendocino County about an hour and a half north of San Francisco. I am telling you there is no place more beautiful, nor run by more kind people. The day we signed with them, Anna, the owner, cut us a bouquet of asparagus right from the garden. She also let us taste lots of wine, of course.

After securing the venue, finding the rest of our vendors happened quickly and naturally – it honestly felt more like stumbling upon new friends. I saw some of our photographer Ben Christensen’s work online, was stunned, realized he lived in California, and immediately called him. We met our incredible florist, Ellen Kyle, through a close mutual friend, and after one meeting, I knew I could trust her completely to just do her thing. We were led to Vinnie Esparza, our DJ, by a couple we met at a party, and Gillian hooked us up with our caterer Sage. A coworker told me about Kim at Bright Room Studios for our invites, as well as Cathy Haebe our cake baker. I was even able to convince our band, Windy Hill, to help me plan a surprise serenade for Erik.

Erik and I were so impressed with everyone’s professionalism and attention to detail. All of our vendors went above and beyond, and we feel so indebted to them for pulling off such an amazing event, as well as to our family and friends for providing so much love and support. The weekend was perfect. We didn’t know we could be filled with so much joy and gratitude.

We’ve seen some truly beautiful boudoir sessions this year, and this stunning morning sunrise session from Kimberly Seabury and Rebekah Carey of A & B Creative is no exception. We love the idea of going outdoors on the morning of your wedding to soak in your last moments before walking down the aisle. Keep reading for more on their inspiration for this elegant boudoir session.

From Rebekah of A & B Creative:

The concept of a sunrise boudoir session on your wedding day is incredibly apt and a beautiful way to document your last moments before becoming a bride. It also offers you a way to stay present in these special moments of solitude before the wedding day begins. Rising early on your wedding day to capture these moments ensures that you will take the time out of a day of busyness to think about the weight of what this day will bring and offer quiet moments of reflection.

We’ll never tire of seeing beautiful black and white weddings. Black tie weddings are classic, elegant, and absolutely timeless. Black looks wonderful on everyone, and a groom looks that much more handsome in a white dinner jacket. Keep reading to find out where the couple found inspiration for their wedding!

From the Couple:

The wedding day was planned with a modern & vintage look in mind. We really wanted to embrace the Edwardian aspects of the manor, but put our own inspirations to work to represent where both of us come from. This ranged from the music we chose, to the brides’ maid dresses/bridal dress, to the liquor we selected, the types of flowers on the stationary, and finally, to the overall vision we had in mind – everything tied back into who we are.

In addition to our personal representations, we had hand picked everything from the decanters for wine & table liquor, to hand crafting the table numbers, invitations, liquor menu, seat guide, hairpiece, and finally, to having a custom dress made. It was a lot of work to bring it together, but it meant a great deal that it came together the way we had envisioned it.

As for the day itself – it turned out to be wonderful weather in a normally rainy month of September. We could not have asked for more ideal circumstances, and it was a pleasure to have our wedding at such a gorgeous (and important) heritage building.

It’s beautiful to read stories from brides and designers that truly create weddings that are a marriage of the environment and the aesthetic of the couple. Callie, the bride, and Lesley, the stylist, worked within their venue to create stunningly simple decor that enhanced the beauty of their surroundings.

From the Bride:

One of the main reasons we chose Italy for our wedding is that we have enjoyed many happy holidays there, including to Venice, where James proposed and 7 years before then, to Rome on our first trip away together.  The food and wine is another reason we chose Italy. Italian food – fresh, seasonal, artisanal – is quite possibly our favourite and very different to what can be offered at wedding venues in the UK.  Finding Masseria Salamina was the icing on the cake – family run, a unique building in beautiful surroundings in an untouched part of Italy. And when we were shown to the bridal suite where a painting of the Doges PalaIce in Venice where we got engaged, was displayed by the entrance, we knew it was meant to be!

From Lesley Lau, the stylist:

When Callie and I discussed the design of her wedding, her only request was that the design should incorporate lots of olive branches.  Luckily, the venue – a 17th century Italian farmhouse – was set in 200 hectares of olive groves, giving us an abundance of foraging opportunities.  I also took inspiration from the richly-coloured earth of the Puglian countryside and the beautiful stone structure of the masseria to create the natural colour palette of this wedding.

All of the florals and foliage were foraged from the surroundings: from the olive branches for the garlands and centrepieces, to the oleander and bougainvillea for the bouquet and boutonnieres. The masseria itself was a treasure trove, filled with hand-made furniture from weathered olive wood and artisanal terracotta pots, which became part of the design.  Pillar candles filled the ancient stone alcoves and decorated the tables, alongside linen napkins and menus calligraphed in olive-coloured ink by Script Merchant for a truly Italian feast!

Boudoir sessions have become a beautiful way to capture the quiet moments before a bride walks down the aisle. Whether you plan on taking some time with your photographer the day of your wedding, or in the weeks leading up to it, spending time alone with them can help you become comfortable with your beauty and body. In those moments, you’ll focus on your movements, your face, and you’ll become aware of your body in a way that you probably haven’t been before. Keep reading for more on the inspiration behind this romantic boudoir session from Katie Decker of Laura Catherine Photography.

From Katie Decker:

There’s a quote that really captures the essence of this piece fairly well, I think:

“I crave you in the most innocent form. I crave to say good night and give you forehead kisses and to say that I adore you when you feel at your worst. I crave you in ways where I just want to be next to you and nothing more or less.”

I wanted to create the moment before being wedded. There’s a contrast of quiet reflection and anticipation before a bride walks down the aisle, before she dons her gown and meets her betrothed at the end of the road. It’s romantic, charged with electricity and quiet all at the same time.

To bring this to life, a romantic-moody palette was introduced, enhanced with vintage gossamer laces, a pastel silk bralette, simple florals. Set inside a 1920s home with fine moulding details that reflect in the custom lace lingerie. An Art deco veil quietly drapes over the brides face and a small bundle of pieris sit in her lap as she reads her note on hand painted silk from her husband to be….

This DIY Test Tube Chandelier would be perfect for over a desert table, or even just in any undecorated nooks around your venue. After you try it out, let us know how you used it!

The full tutorial is below.

Materials:
– 65 Test Tubes (25 for bottom, 40 for top)
– Gold Wire (heavier gauge is preferable)
– Wire Cutters
– Gold Spray Paint
– 12” and 18” Wreath Form

Instructions:
1. Spray paint wreath forms gold and put aside to dry
2. Cut gold wire as follows: Seventy 10” pieces, three 15” pieces and four 25” pieces
3. Take 10” piece of wire and wrap around test tube in an “X” shape, twisting the ends together to form a tight cage for the test tube to rest inside
4. Attach wire to wreath form in a “W” shape
5. Repeat with all test tubes
6. Using the 15” pieces, and with the help of a friend, attach the upper and lower forms together.  Be mindful of wrapping and overlapping to create a sturdy tie
7. Attach the 25″ pieces to the largest piece and anchor on four corners, bringing each wire to center and twisting them around one another to form a cord of wire.  Depending on where the piece will be hung, you may wrap the excess wire into the shape of a circle so it can be hung on a hook
