Lucas and I had been together for a bit over 8 years at the time of our wedding, so it was cute that many of our friends kept saying, “8 years in the making”.  We were high school sweethearts, seriously. We were voted it by the school! So I think that made it special for all of our guests who knew us from the beginning.

The theme for our wedding came from a decor inspiration shoot by Jill LaFleur. It was linen tablecloths with soft peach cottage roses and passion vines. Romantic and sweet. We added in crystal chandeliers and soft pink mercury glass hurricanes filled with candles. I made scallop-edged round burlap runners for the tables and planned for the peach hued cottage rose arrangements to take center stage. April Peet of April Flowers was a huge help in visualizing all the different concepts of the day. She does amazing flowers, but just as vital are the straightforward opinions she can deliver. Just a few weeks before the wedding, I was exhausted and told her we were not having anything at the ceremony except a sprinkling of rose petals- she said no and convinced me that, me and my personality would not be happy with that.  She was so right! So my sister, my mom and I cut and sewed and hung and slaved over the ceremony backdrop, but it definitely paid off. During the ceremony, the layers of tulle flowed in the breeze and made the scene very magical. We also decided to have a thick layer of rose petals extend up to the backdrop and that little detail added a ton more magic to the setting.

When it came to the food, we knew we wanted to get away from the typical fish, chicken, beef buffet but we also knew we didn’t want to go overboard budget wise. That was when we met with Kirsten from Bello Forno who was more than helpful in fitting into our budget. We opted for an authentic Italian pizza buffet with six different types of pizza!

For dessert, Jeremy from Eclair Bakery whipped us up some super delicious petit fours. We had quite a collection to choose from so we went with mini eclairs (my favorite), lemon bars, and fruit tarts. Jeremy also made a two-tier cake for use to cut and store for our one year anniversary.

I’m sure most people say this, but I (as well as most of the guests I’ve spoken to) really felt like there was an  air of romance wafting around the Dana Powers house that day. There was no drama, no catastrophes-  only a small collective of people enjoying themselves. We danced, ate, kissed and mostly, loved every moment of it.
