What made you decide to become a wedding photographer?
Meaghan: I was always the girl with a camera in her hand… since before I can even remember. I’ve always loved people and celebrations. I shot a few weddings of friends right out of college (photography major), and I was in LOVE. I’ve never turned back. It’s what I’m meant to do.
What’s your favorite season for weddings?
Meaghan: Ahhhh… I love each season, but if I have to pick, I love summer weddings… everything about them. I specialize in outdoor weddings, so summer is the perfect time. It’s a season of romance, glorious flowers & gardens, amazing light, quiet paths in the lush forest, cafe lights, outdoor celebrations… So much goodness in summer.
What’s the best tip for brides deciding on a photographer?
Meaghan: Make a personal connection with them. I think the relationship is so important that you form with your photographer. They are beside you for the entire day, and enjoying their presence/connecting with them on a personal level makes such a difference in your photos. You become more relaxed, and your images reflect that. It allows your photographer to capture the essence of your relationship.
What’s the one thing you can’t make it through the day without?
Meaghan: I’d say a good cup of coffee in the AM.
How would you describe your photography style?
Meaghan: I see so many different definitions of wedding photography styles… but I’d say this. I’m probably a blend of traditional and photojournalistic, with an emphasis on composition, lighting, and background. I love forming relationships with my clients, so my style is relaxed and fun. I want my clients to feel like themselves, and I want to capture authentic interactions between them. So when working with folks, I genuinely try to get to know them, and understand their personality as a couple. And I think it goes a bit deeper than photography. It’s about understanding people, and making them feel comfortable. Being able to read folks and prompt them accordingly helps me to get beautiful images that reflect my clients.
If you could photograph a wedding anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Meaghan: I legitimately don’t think I can answer this! In 100% honesty, I LOVE traveling, so I don’t think I can narrow it down! Maybe Kauai… because it is such a special place to my family, and it doesn’t get much more gorgeous than that!
