My dress is the L320 Romona Keveza dress. It is a beautiful 100% Silk (Shantung) scoop-neck, strapless mermaid with train. I bought my dress at a locally owned bridal boutique in St. Louis for my wedding last year. I’m ready to pass it on to a new bride- I would love to keep it but it is just too big to store in my house! It is in great shape and deserves another day out!
I loved it because when I put it on, this dress had such superior construction and seaming compared to the other ones I had tried in the same style. It just felt miles nicer, and it looked better too. The construction was the best quality in my price range. The fabric was a huge factor, as well. Silk shantung holds its own shape without being stiff or crunchy. It doesn’t cling to the body, either. It feels soft and is easy to move in, but has enough body to keep the silhouette naturally. Because of the design and the fabric of this dress, it keeps the mermaid flare without any shift dress or petticoats. Other mermaids felt like wading through 2 feet of poof when walking. This dress doesn’t need extra tulle to push the dress out. This was great for temperature regulation! I felt so light and there was nothing scratchy against the legs either. This really sold it for me.
The dress is a size 10 on the label, but is probably closer to a street size 8. The waist is 29” and the hips are 39.” I wear a 32 C-D in the bust. I did not need any alterations to the fit of the dress, so nothing was taken in or out anywhere. If you need to take it out a little, or in as much as you want, there are no preexisting alterations to deal with. What I did have altered was the hem length. The dress was hemmed to my height in shoes- 5'4”. I had it hemmed as low as possible to the ground, covering most of the shoe while walking. A nude Body by Victoria Secret bra, 32C, is attached inside the bodice but is only sewed into the neckline lightly and would be easy to remove when you are having it re-altered. Or if you wear a 32C, it's a new bra that my seamstress made me give her to cut up and put in the dress! The dress looks fine on without a bra, it is simply a smoother silhouette without one and I wanted a bit more "lift." For the bustle, my seamstress put in "invisible" thread hooks for a 3 point English bustle, or over bustle. This retains the mermaid flare of the dress, the only change to the silhouette while bustled is that there is no longer a train and the whole hem is even at ground level. There are no pouf, folds, or pickups under the rear. The train simply picks up and is hooked from it's middle onto near the back of the thighs, on the outside of the dress. The extra fabric flows naturally into the waves of the flare. Silk shantung really holds itself out into lovely shapes and the bustle hangs nicely but with some interest and volume. Please Note: The sash shown in the black & white photo is not included- my mom made it with my great grandmother's brooch. However, it would be easy to replicate with some ivory satin ribbon and costume jewelry, or your own grandmother's brooch! That's what my mom did and it was so much cheaper than a wedding designer's sash.
The dress has not been cleaned since the wedding. It is in wonderful condition, so I saw no need to risk the cleaners messing it up! I wore the dress for two 30 minute fittings, and from 2pm - 11pm on my wedding day. We had an indoor wedding at one location, so the only time the dress was outside was during pictures. The only signs of wear are some light dust or dirt on the underside (not showing) of the hem in the back from walking, and a little very light beige(?) coloring on the inside of the neckline (not visible while wearing) which looks like a bit of the fair-tone powder the makeup artist used or maybe it is color rubbed off from the nude bra. Nothing was spilled on the dress, there's no foundation or lipstick etc. on it, no mud or grass stains. If you want detailed pictures, feel free to ask for them! It has been stored fully sealed in it's original dress bag from Romona Kevaza, and has always been hanging at it's full length from a beam on my ceiling (it is too long to fit in a closet!). I keep it in a storage room with no windows, water, cooking, pets, or smoke.
