There are only a couple of dress salons in Japan that carry Vera Wang wedding dresses. I think the ‘Deandra’ may be a style that is only sold in Japan. I tried it on at a salon and immediately fell in love with the delicate layers of the not-too-light silk organza fabric, classical but modern A-line, modest neckline and the perfect amount of train. But the Deandra was out of stock across the country, and a new order wouldn’t arrive in time for my wedding which was then only 2.5 months away. After several more fitting sessions at other salons, the Vera Wang Deandra dress was still stuck in my mind.
I got really lucky when I went online and found a used one in great condition. It had a slight stain on the inside of the bodice, but it isn’t visible when worn. Other than that, it was perfect as new. I bought a single hoop skirt and wore it inside to make it easier to walk up and down the chapel aisle, and an attachment to fill the train in the back of the skirt. The hoop and attachment were removed during the reception that followed.
I wore the dress indoors for a total of 5 hours, all in one day: at the ceremony, reception, and photo session. I sent it to a professional dress cleaner immediately after, and it was dry cleaned the following week. The first owner said that she also wore it at her ceremony, reception, and photo session. In Japan, we don’t have the tradition of partying into the night, so the dress is only very lightly used.
I do not see any rips or stains (other than the slight stain on the inside of the bodice) but I did notice that there were some small pieces of decorative layers that had come loose around the bodice and waist. They were originally sewn down with clear thread, so if it bothers you, you can easily pin it down yourself with clear or white thread. The side zipper is a tricky one, but it was that way at the dress salon, and everyone says that about Vera Wang wedding gowns, so it’s probably the way it is. Just ask your helper to be extra careful when zipping it up.
I absolutely love this dress. I was so lucky to have been able to wear it for my wedding. I have only recently started to think about letting it go if there might be a lovely bride-to-be who would like to give the dress a 3rd life.
The first photo is from my fitting at the salon (minus high heels, minus hoop skirt underneath) which is not the actual dress that I have but it shows the ribbon sash and origami-like details in the front. The rest of the photos are from my own wedding in July 2016.
The first owner did not give me her receipt, but the original Vera Wang brand tags, branded wooden hanger (metal hook part glued onto wooden part after it became too loose to hold the dress), branded dress bag will be sent with the dress.
