Mori Lee 1957 Wedding Dress

This dress was at the second bridal salon that I visited, and I must have easily shopped at 8 places! I loved it immediately but wanted to keep looking to make sure it was "the one". I continued trying on wedding gowns but found something wrong with every one! I finally came back simply to try the dress on again, this time with my mother and grandmother. As soon as I put it on again I knew it was perfect! I purchased it and then waited almost a year to wear it (my wedding was February 2015) as I work out of the country. I was nervous about trying it on for the first time so close to my wedding, but I loved it even more!

I got so many compliments on my dress throughout the wedding day-- it is truly classic and timeless and an absolute stunner. I wore it for both my ceremony and reception and was in the dress a total of 10-11 hours. Even when I took it in to be cleaned a customer at the cleaners couldn't stop raving over my dress! I will be sad to part with it but it deserves to be worn and loved again!

The dress is ivory and is made of beaded lace appliques overlaid on tulle. I also have a simple, short tulle veil (see second picture) that I am happy to include for a small fee if you want that option.

Dress Alterations

The dress has had several alterations, mostly per my request for aesthetic purposes. It has obviously been hemmed; I am 5'6" and wore 5 1/2" heels, so it would suit a taller girl or someone who wants big shoes like I did! The dress has a very simple French bustle which is easy to do; you simply tie the loops together under the dress and let it fall to catch on the hooks sewed in. It took my mother and matron of honor just a few minutes to do this! I had the sash/belt permanently attached to the dress and the long organza tie cut off (I did not want a bow on my back). This makes the line in the back cleaner and also keeps the sash from sliding around. I wanted to show off my back and so had the back lowered to where it attaches to the belt (see my pictures). To do this my seamstress has folded down the inside belt so that it won't pop out and be seen. I also had the very top of the neckline lined with a bit of tulle to help prevent scratching as I have very sensitive skin. That adjustment made no difference to the look of the dress.

Dry Cleaning/Preservation

My dress has been specially dry cleaned and pressed. I have not opted to preserve the dress as it has just gone through the cleaning process and I prefer for someone else to enjoy it instead! I was very fortunate during the reception to have no spills or damage done to the dress as all; the hem was the part that gathered the most dirt from being on the ground. It has been lovingly cleaned and is ready for its next bride!
