Combining our love of travel and desire for an intimate affair in a beautiful setting, a destination wedding in New York City seemed the perfect choice. Stuart and I were incredibly lucky to be joined by twenty of our closest family and friends who made the journey from Australia to share in our special day. With everyone in holiday mode and many never having visited the city before, it was a week full of events and extended celebrations.
Being a cake decorator, it was lovely to be on the other side of the wedding planning process and to work with such brilliant vendors and artists. They really did bring our vision to life! The city’s streetscapes and the chic Greenwich Hotel served as the perfect backdrop for our classic and relaxed affair. Our simple yet elegant stationery suite was designed with this in mind; custom made by the talented Samone who is one of my closest friends and also my business partner back home.
Choosing the right photographer to document our day was at the top of the priority list and Maggie exceeded our expectations in every way. Not only did she capture the beautiful details and essence of the day perfectly, she was also incredibly friendly and professional throughout the entire process. She also pointed me in the direction of Saipua who created my stunning bouquet and other floral arrangements for the day.
I’ll never forget the moment I walked out on to the beautiful rooftop garden, arm in arm with my Dad, to meet Stu and to say our vows on that warm and sunny Autumn morning. Though short and sweet, the ceremony was very intimate and emotional and, on the advice of a good friend, I made sure to take a moment to take it all in.
Once the formalities were complete, we made our way back downtown to join our guests for cocktail hour and a delicious lunch in the private room of Italian restaurant Locanda Verde. Being of an Italian background, good food, wine and plenty of laughter was an absolute must. It was also a nod to my beautiful Nonna who sadly couldn’t make the trip but had given me her Mother’s gold wedding band which I had tied to my bouquet on the day.
We loved that we chose to celebrate our union in a way that reflected ‘us’ and ensured we had the entire day to enjoy time with our guests…and party until the wee hours of the next morning!
