When I first saw Nancy
and Ethan’s beautiful wedding, I literally gasped at the images in
front of me on my computer screen. I rarely ever pass up the opportunity to
feature a wedding filled with lovely details on the site, but have to
admit this wedding caught my eye for a completely different reason. Not
only are the images below absolutely gorgeous, but the sense of
community and love surrounding their wedding is truly refreshing and hearwarming.
Their “potluck” style reception is without a doubt one of the most
memorable ideas I’ve seen yet and a great example of how you can
include the people you love in a variety of ways on your wedding day. Nancy was kind enough to share a few more details behind their amazing day…

When Ethan and I began to plan our
wedding, we took into consideration a great deal of things. As a wedding
, I see many weddings and events and a lot of waste and
stress caused by all the little details. We wanted to keep it simple
for us and our family and friends…yet interesting and special…we
also were on a budget…175 guests and $3,000.00  to spend.

Being a photographer and artist, I
chose to create our own invites and  designed them in photoshop
and printed and mailed them myself…the design was created from a sunprint
made from a dried wildflower boquet Ethan had given to me when we first
started dating…

My dress was a vintage dress embellished
with lace from my great great aunt…

We chose a very large and private park
setting set in the foothills near our home in Santa Barbara…we loved
all the old oak trees and that it was close to home.

We didn’t believe in hiring someone
to marry us so our friend Andy performed our ceremony from vows we had
written and gave beautiful speech and dedication in our honor beforehand…we
asked that our friends and family stand around us in a half circle and
we faced them as opposed to being turned away from them as I see in
most weddings…

The decorations
were clever and simple…we made a thousand white paper cranes together
between the two of us to hang from the oak trees around our ceremony
and the reception area…the cranes were a symbol of our patience and
understanding for one another (it took a lot of patience to fold all
the cranes and we were always together while folding)…

I love this wedding, I linked to it on the photographer’s website and it is really beautiful. I love the origami cranes and it is what I want at my wedding. Nice to hear that they made them together.
