DIY Palm Springs Wedding

Organic Wedding Hair

Today I have the most adorable, unique Palm Springs wedding to share with you. The whole day seems like a low-key, sincere celebration over Ben and Taylor’s love. Don’t you love how Taylor decided to wear more than one dress? I think it’s wonderful. What a perfect mix of modern, handmade details and organic elements.

We got engaged in our bed, without a ring, with only words. I want you. It became the unofficial theme of our wedding and set the tone for the the celebration. The Autry estate at The Parker was the perfect setting, surprisingly felt like home with old world etiquette and new age simplicity. Save the dates were sent out on vintage French flash cards, “you have plans”. We didn’t know when we chose the date, a Thursday, but it turned out to be a full moon in the fall equinox. The ceremony was at dusk. Twenty eight guests had been enjoying our signature drink  for an hour before they were ushered to the lawn. I changed dresses, from an asymmetrical Bottega Veneta to a vintage nude Givenchy and opted for no shoes. Ben took off his navy blue Raybans. Lying by the pool earlier that morning, I had seen gardeners trimming the bougainvillea and asked if I might have some. I had gathered citrus and olive branches from my grandparents estate nearby to make all the arrangements throughout the house and the magenta petals provided the only floral. The gardeners also made me a bouquet.

The dinner table had been hidden behind patio doors and was unveiled with candlelight. The guitarists continued to play, I changed again.  To a Stella McCartney jumpsuit with a hand beaded “Bridal Caftan” made by talented designer and my dearest Maggie Godwin, gifted the night prior. Collections of vintage glassware and teak decor adorned the table top linens by California design house Commune along with dozens of airplants that guests took with them. The Parker’s culinary delights were amazing, though didn’t dull the toasts and wishes.

We continued on, a new friend, Nancy Neil, captured us getting caught in the moment of so much joy. The save the dates, which had instructed guests to bring them along, provided an individual canvas for words of wisdom. The fire pit and s’mores gave everyone a second wind. Guests took painters linen beach blankets as tokens, with the reminder ‘I want you’  screen printed on every one.
