A DIY Michigan Wedding II

guitar wedding ideas

Our reception took place at the Glen Arbor Town Hall.  The night before the wedding, everything was decorated by us, and our lovely friends.  I can’t imagine what we would have done without their helping hands!  As we arrived at the reception, we were greeted with a shower of lavender.   I stuffed the lavender into muslin bags and hand stamped a butterfly on each one.  I wanted the reception to feel like you were being welcomed into our home, so I ended up using many items right from our house.  We have so many great vintage and antique finds. It was nice to be able to put them all to use.

The wooden vases were made special for the wedding by our two of dear friends. They had a really pretty vintage look to them.  The bunting was made from paper doilies and twine.    The flowers were picked that morning from a local flower farm for only fifty dollars.  My best friend, who used to work as a florist, did all of the super-cute arrangements for us!  The tables were covered with vintage linens and vases we had collected over time.

For dinner, we served our favorite comfort foods, made by a local woman who cooks all the food from scratch in her home: Ribs, Mac’ and cheese, Cornbread, Cherry chicken, Potato salad.  Instead of your typical wedding cake, we bought homemade pies from a local stand, and served cupcakes, in three delicious flavors, that I decorated with vintage millinery flowers.  For wedding favors, my friend Jenny and I made homemade strawberry jam and filled lolly bags with our favorite treats.   We are lucky enough to be friends with the amazing band “Bear Lake”, who played during the reception.  All in all; it ended up being a dream come true, and more than we had ever hoped for.  We could not have an imagined a more perfect day for ourselves!  We truly feel so lucky!
