What happens when you have a wedding in rural France and your ribbon order has not arrived?? Ginny Au found herself in such a state, and turned to her step-mother and artist Heather Cowie for help. Heather has been dyeing silk since the late 80’s, using it either as background to her mixed media artwork or other creations. Ginny took pieces of Heather’s dyed and torn silks and stripped them into ribbons. Together they further dyed linens and muslin for the wedding design… Froufrou Chic Ribbon was born.
With Ginny in the States heading up the marketing, styling and order production, Heather is based in Europe, dyeing and fraying at their summer home in Dordogne, France.
Heather says “I normally mix colors by intuition, so it has been a challenge to create colors in repeatable proportions with predictable outcome. Each batch of our ribbon is a little varied, but we love the touch of the hand in the hand-made.”
Together they have developed a luxury range of hand-made silk ribbons to purchase on their online store or custom order from their 32 color guide.
Ginny and Heather are graciously giving away 20 yards of silk ribbon in any color from their color guide to one lucky Once Wed reader! The winner will be announced July 23rd.
