Every post we do on Once Wed is because we are inspired by the content and want to share that inspiration with you. We feel that the more information we can share with our Brides the easier and more wonderful their weddings can be. So we are excited to share this behind the scenes peak at the thought process behind this beautiful shoot.

From the Floral and Event Designer:
When opting for a more minimalistic design choice, it is important to be intentional with every detail. With an earthy palette stepping into spring, we chose a grounded modern meadow installation, a low terra cotta vessel, and long flowing silk ribbons to continually pull the eye back toward the earth. The open, light-filled venue offered the ideal space to capture the nuance of the floral palette and the delicate details in our bride’s vintage J. Mendel gown. The delicate gown’s low pleating capture attention with a gentle nod to the past, while remaining fresh and current with the revealed back and high neckline.

The color combination was inspired by the soft romantic Japanese sweet peas that took a central role in the design process. Their gentle stems were wrapped with fluffy spirea, roses and hellebores. By choosing such a neutral palette, every touch of color stands out. This enhances the soft green of the spirea but also allows the more subdued shades to shine. “Muddier florals” allow for depth and romantic maturity in a way that is truly unique. I often reference this palette to the bride who may be a little more shy, not used to being in the spotlight, or for the couple who frequently enjoy exploring nature together.

About OnceWed.com

Once Wed was launched in March 2008 to meet a need in the marketplace for an online listing service for second-hand wedding dresses.
