Neutral Fall Wedding with Lush, Organic Flowers

Sherwin and Angela’s neutral fall wedding day came together absolutely beautifully—though it took a 2 year engagement and a complete 180 switch in their wedding plans to occur. Eventually, their intimate guest list allowed for a traditional ceremony in an old cathedral they had visited together as University students, followed by a beautiful meal at a favorite restaurant. With a neutral palette of grey, mocha, and oyster tones, some fall tones were worked into the lush, organic floral arrangements from Sweet Woodruff in Toronto. Hints of autumnal touches were seen in the bouquets with natural leaves, while centerpieces at the reception spilled over with deeper hues, fall foliage, and fresh fruits.

“Sherwin and I were engaged for two years before we married last October. This gave us plenty of time to plan a more conventional wedding with over a hundred guests—only to start over again six months before our wedding day due to unexpected circumstances. Thankfully, the tighter timeline and smaller budget narrowed our focus on the elements that were most important to us.

We were guided by our desire to preserve a sense of warmth and intimacy that can sometimes get lost in traditional formal affairs. Our ceremony was held in a 90-year-old church on my university campus, one we had visited often as college students. I will forever carry the image of Sherwin standing at the end of that familiar aisle. Our pared-down list of 64 guests allowed us to have a restaurant reception in Toronto’s Historic Distillery District. The space was a dream. The wonderful Sweet Woodruff team styled the room with floral arrangements in a mostly neutral palette, bringing in autumnal tones through foraged leaves, pears, figs, grapes and crabapples from my parents’ backyard. We were literally surrounded by our family and friends as we sat elbow to elbow with our favourite people.

Our wedding was the realization of a dream we had carried in our hearts through our entire relationship: to be husband and wife. That the day unfolded in a way that was so deeply personal and palpably overflowing with love is more than we ever imagined. Even now, we can’t believe that it was ours.”
