From Photographer Sadie Culberson:
I was inspired to create a wedding that felt like a refined art project. The goal was to evoke a sense of walking into a friend’s studio where loved ones gather and contribute their craft to the celebratory day. The guests would sign in by painting their mark on a piece of artwork. One friend may bring handwoven napkins while another who excels in ceramics may bring the plates. This simple and intentional collaboration would set the backdrop for the day of celebration. Detail, craft and natural elegance embody the hearts of the couple and the guests, creating a moment that lingers as inspiration for their next artistic endeavor.

This project began with four simple, handwoven napkins made with my grandma’s hand spun yarn. I care deeply about ethical resources and wanted to include as many local makers and quality goods to the vision as possible. Along with thoughtful sourcing, I wanted to choose details that could be reused for years to come in the couple’s home together. The linen tablecloths would be used as picnic blankets and bed sheets years after their wedding. Her MaraisUSA shoes are her favorite sandals in the summertime. The ceramic plates are used at family meals around the table and wedding guest’s artwork is the focal point in the couple’s living room.

To me, a wedding is special because of the handiwork of close friends and the celebration of savoring life in community. So rather than creating an impressive production with vendors and large bouquets, we focused on the simple moments of celebration and the belief that life itself is artful.
