Bought this dress after trying over 50 dresses. I bought it “off the rack” a size too big but at a great deal (this dress at a local shop cost $1900 to order, the store had it for sale for $1350). This dress had everything I wanted: lace, drop-waist, train, sweetheart neckline, and the gorgeous beading detail at the chest. It made me look long and lean and I felt BEAUTIFUL!
- Alterations: Since I bought this a size too big, I took this dress to a wedding dress maker for alterations...I wanted the best alterations available! The dress was taken in the torso and in the chest. The neckline was also "pinched" to make it a deeper sweetheart. The dress was hemmed to my shoes (with my shoes I was about 5'6") and a three-hoop skirt was sewed in to make walking easier. I usually wear a size 2 in dresses/jeans and XS tops. This dress did have room in the hips though (I wanted to be able to sit and dance!) after the alterations, so even up to a size 4 should fit in no problem. The bustle is also still intact (American 3 point bustle). The seamstress bustled it to continue the patter of the lace from the bodice to the bustle.
- Preservation Method: Took it to the local wedding dress cleaning expert to have it cleaned and preserved (skipped the box though since the hoop skirt would have to be removed to make that happen). They filled the gown with dress-friendly tissue and it has been wrapped in a clean, white cotton sheet to keep it safe.
