My mom and I met after work to try on some wedding dresses. I didn’t know I was going to buy anything that night. In my mind’s eye, I wanted something straight and silky like LA Confidential. I didn’t want huge poof and I certainly didn’t want frills. But I told the woman who was helping me, I’ll try on anything. She pulled this dress from the rack and I shrugged and said, “sure.” After trying on a few dresses, we came to this one. When it was on, even though it was a little big, I could tell never to judge a dress on the hanger again. It looked beautiful. My mom started crying. She said this was the one. Once you see tears in your mom’s eyes, you can’t really go back!
On my wedding day, I literally felt like the most beautiful person in the world. I really did feel like a princess, like nothing could possibly get me down. I get teary just thinking about it. This dress was perfect. This dress was absolutely stunning. I am so glad I picked it. I wore it down the isle, with the long train. And I also wore it bustled up dancing. It was SO MUCH FUN to dance in. I had mobility and grace.
The bodice of this dress is incredible. It’s delicately beaded and rouched to the left side. The bottom falls in layered ruffles on a diagonal. There is some embroidery on the ruffles. The back is corset-tied with a nice, droopy bow.
- Alterations: My tailor, a really talented and skilled woman at Maridadi Couture, altered this dress perfectly. She took in the sides and some length off the bottom. She altered the top so that it fit my chest perfectly. She added hidden color-coordinated bustle strings to the train so that it could be easily tied up. Honestly, when it was bustled, you couldn't even tell. During a moment of panic, there was a moment during my second alteration that I thought, "Holy cow, why did I pick this dress? It's so wedding-y!" But after the alterations were finished and the dress fit me absolutely perfectly, I fell in love with it all over again. I do have the optional spaghetti straps, too.
- Preservation Method: This is has been kept it in a cool, dry place in the Alfred Angelo bag. There are no discolorations, rips or spills/stains. However, it has not been cleaned and I believe the bustles are still tied. The undersides of the train are a little dirty from being on the floor. Please contact me for more pictures. I have a ton.
