The amazing photographer, Shyla Dalirifar, recently sent in the gorgeous DIY wedding of Shayda and Ben for me to share this week on Once Wed. The bride did such a wonderful job crafting many of the details herself, so I was thrilled when she generously agreed to send over some more details from their wedding…
I really wanted a 50′s vintage-y wedding with a modern twist. I knew I wanted the bridesmaids in two different color dresses (I had ten of them!), and their flowers to be in the opposing color.. to tie the dresses and flowers together. I decided on the cake and how I wanted it to look first off. Design and color wise, taupe and bright pink just seemed to fit. I originally had a vintage blue color in mind, so I threw pops of that in as well. I found vintage millinery flowers, other woodsy items (acorns and such), + some feathers, and fashioned the boys some boutonnieres. This was one of my favorite projects and not difficult to do!
I thrifted, thrifted and thrifted. I bought most things for the wedding that way, and made them useful for my purpose. I thrifted all my center piece items… milk glass and taupe vases for the flowers and cafe au lait bowls + milk glass bowls for the succulents. Ben’s mom made table runners. Friends made paper pom poms in my colors. My mom’s friend found a local wholesale flower shop and bought all our flowers and arranged them ourselves. I’ve done arranging for a couple of weddings before, but doing your own was one of the most difficult aspects. Difficult, but rewarding!
Thank you again to Shyla for sending in this gorgeous wedding. And to Ben and Shayda for letting us take a peek in your beautiful wedding. We wish you two lots of love and happiness for many years to come!

How can I make that fabulous purple rose atop the wedding cake above? JennCherMar@gmail.com
Hello all, thank you so much! Yes, this was a bit of work, but well worth it! We got the groomsmen outfits at j-crew. They were on sale.. and rentals were almost as much, but they ended up with a suit to keep! The ivory balloons I got from Lipman co. here in Portland. If you would like to see more pictures or have other questions, (I think I’m missing a few) please email me. I’d be glad to share… shaydam@gmail.com

I like the white balloons, the table runners, the paper pompoms with the “Just Married” banner hanging right below it, and the wedding cakes. But what I simply adored, was the bride’s beautiful smile and the groom’s unique ensemble.
The photos portray them as a happy couple, carefree, and very much in love…What perfect shots for a simply perfect country wedding!!!
Those shoes are adorable.
Awe, how cute are the groomsmen! Kudos to the bride for gathering so many thrifty details!
Love the cupcake stand, I am using the same one for my wedding next week. Beautiful!
