How to Design for Camera

StylingRealvsCamera_DedicatedEmail_V1Have you designed something that you’ve loved, only to see it photographed and turn out not at all like you expected?

This result is to do with the gap between the three-dimensional world we inhabit and the two-dimensional word of photography. It’s a challenge all creatives face.

We worked with some florists to look at ways of combatting this problem. We are sharing some of the results with you in a video on Wedding Styling 101 today.

Magical Mountain Elopement in The Rockies

If you’ve followed Once Wed for a while, then you’ll know that our aesthetic tends towards the organic, simple, and natural-inspired. The beauty that is this magical mountain elopement in the Rockies couldn’t be more up our alley: from the absolutely stunning embroidery on the bodice of this Hayley Paige gown, to the delicate flushes of color in the bridal bouquet, to the overwhelming sense of magic and peace from that breathtaking landscape, we simply can’t get enough.

More from the photographer, Justine Milton:
“Weddings, at the heart of it, are most importantly about the bond between two people who are about to embark on of their greatest adventure of their lives. It isn’t about a fancy venue, a big bridal party, or a ten tier cake. Sometimes, the simplest weddings are the most beautiful. When you realize all you need is the person you love, standing next to you, that is the real beauty. With the desire to be truly present with one another during your vows. No distractions from friends or family. Our couple decided to elope and be truly present for their special day. They hoped for an intimate and carefree ceremony, with their only distractions being the sounds of nature. For the overall design, we allowed nature to choose the colors and tones for their wedding day. Drawing inspiration from the beautiful mountains of Canmore, Alberta and the turquoise river, the florals displayed a lovely combination of creams, ivories, greens, and accents of dusty rose and sandy tones.”

Autumn Wedding Inspiration

I recently had a chance to produce a beautiful autumn inspired shoot with Meghan Kay Sadler and Joy Thigpen. Here is a little insight from Joy into how she approaches a shoot “I like to design shoots around one beautiful starting place. In this case it was our model, Katie. We loved her coloring and youthful freckles, so every decision I made from hair and makeup to the color of the tablescape linens was to compliment her.”
