DIY Wedding Escort Cards

Table assignments can be one of the trickiest parts of a wedding to plan but as a guest, finding your table can be one of the most memorable elements of the day. How you show guests to their seats will be shaped by the look of your wedding, as well as how you want your guests to feel.

Making it easy for your guests to find their place naturally conveys a sense of graciousness and hospitality. The manner in which you do it will be shaped by the tone of the celebration. Whether minimalist or whimsical, playful or romantic, thoughtful table assignments are equal parts form and function.

If you’d like for your guests to find their own places at their table, set an escort card table with individual cards that show both their names and seat assignments, or display a larger seating chart that features all of the information together. (Remember that escort cards “escort” the guest to the table.)

If you’d additionally like to predetermine guests’ seat at each table, set placecards with their respective name at each place. (Placecards determine the “place” of each guest once they are at the table.) Oftentimes if there is a head table it will feature placecards, even if the remaining tables do not, in order to eliminate any awkwardness or confusion about where the couple will sit once they arrive at the table.

If you’re looking for inspiration, we’ve prepared a slideshow of 10 lovely escort card and placecard ideas you can try yourself!

Outdoor Autumn Wedding Inspiration

“The beauty that shimmers in the yellow afternoons of October, who ever could clutch it?” (Emerson, Beauty)

There is something about autumn that makes it a uniquely romantic time of year – the slight chill in the air calls for layers and warm touches, while the falling leaves remind us to soak in the beauty around us while it is still present. There are many things that make autumn a wonderful time for a wedding.

Read on for more from the creative team, and how they sought to celebrate the beauty around them:

“When Ashley came to me with the idea of an American-inspired shoot, I had a feeling that the history and beauty of Concord, MA would serve well as our setting. The place lends itself directly to an identity of transformation in beauty, and the stories it tells are of the very threads that weave the fabric of American literature and thought. The Transcendentalists made this place their home and hub for their 19th century school of thought, particularly Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry Thoreau, whose words led us into their world. For the shoot, we followed Thoreau to the shores of Walden Pond as the sun set on a pristine October day, where he lived for a hunger to “live deep and suck out all the marrow of life” (Walden, Thoreau).

“We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn… It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look…. Every man is tasked to make his life, even in its details, worthy of the contemplation of his most elevated and critical hour.”

In the images captured we hope to tell a story of self-discovery in nature and beauty, of the very self-reliance that the Transcendentalists themselves brought to life.”

Simple Wedding Inspiration in the Mountains

Imagine a young free-spirited barefoot bride, subtle and shiny, stepping on green grass, delicate braiding in her blonde hair, the hem of her skirt almost breathing on the wind, walking hand-in-hand with her loving fiancé. The breathtaking mountains are in the background, and you feel the atmosphere of that day.

This is the inspiration that photographer (and Once Wed Premium Vendor) Vitaly Ageev took when creating this newlywed portrait shoot in the mountains. While this feature isn’t filled with tons of floral details or decor ideas, we find ourselves inspired by the emotional connection between the couple – their sweet glances, the delicate ways their fingers caress one another – and encourage your wedding photographer to be inspired by the unique ways that you and your fiancé interact.

More from the photographer, Vitaly Ageev:

“The location was the key inspiration of our shoot. The immense mountains and the bunches of magnolia which spread out on the slopes of the hills in soft beds gave the whole crew an amazing sense of freedom.
We focused on exploring the beauty of simplicity. By gathering inspiration from textures found in nature and combining feminine details with raw natural materials, we created a very tactile experience. The pure, airy silk of the dress, hand-made paper with delicate calligraphy, rough warm stones from the hills, fragile petals of snowdrops – these simple elements allowed us to expose natural, effortless aesthetics.
I tend to be emotionally connected to the peolpe I shoot, not only by paying a lot of attention to details, but also be being inspired by the way the couple interacts with each other. During this shoot, I was so happy to film the intimacy of the affectionate couple and did my best to grasp the magic of their interactions with one another and with nature.”
