I have to admit I get a little burn out on weddings sometimes. Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love my job and feel incredibly blessed to wake up every morning and write Once Wed, but staying on top of 600+ blogs a day can occasionally leave you a little worn out visually. Thankfully, when I have the opportunity to feature a wedding like Denise and Jasper’s…it reminds me why I love weddings so much. Their wedding was such a breath of fresh air for me and I’m so excited about the opportunity to share their rad celebration with you today on Once Wed…
I’m an interior designer and Jasper, my husband, is a photographer so it was very important to us that our wedding be a reflection of us – a wedding that wasn’t formal, stuffy or overly traditional but was filled with love, joy and, of course, handmade details. Although we live and work in San Francisco, we decided to have our wedding at the Ace Hotel and Swim Club in Palm Springs. We wanted a celebration inspired by the desert, photography and sixties/seventies bohemian California.

We made our invitations, an elaborate package of formal invite, photographs Jasper took of Palm Springs during our visits there, a CD for the road trip out there and a Tom Robbins quote we felt summed up our relationship; we put the entire collection inside of felt pockets my father sewed and topped it off with a feather. I scoured eBay for vintage 60s/70s stamps, even finding a photography stamp.
Stay tuned for so much more coming up next!

Because we’re featuring an amazing bohemian wedding later today on Once Wed, I thought this morning would be the perfect opportunity to give a shout to one of our amazing sponsors, Lo Boheme…
We are the wife-husband team of Lauren (Lo) and Josh Christensen based out of a tiny 1920′s bungalow in San Diego who specialize in one of a kind and custom accessories for weddings, special events, or everyday wear. The Lo Boheme aesthetic is inspired by the details of eras past; whether it be French Bohemianism of the late 1800′s, the detailed lines of the Art Nouveau movement, or the glamor of Old Hollywood. It is the delicate feminine sophistication from these times, coupled with Lo’s modern eye that produce unique yet wearable statement head pieces.

The pieces above are from Lo’s brand new Spring collection which should be in her shop by the end of the week. She was also generous enough to offer all Once Wed readers 10% off their purchases on everything in her shop (except custom orders) from now through April 15th . If you are interested in including this in your post they can enter “once wed” in the notes to seller section at checkout to get the discount.

I have a lovely photo shoot coming up next from the ladies over at beauty everyday, but wanted to take a quick moment to introduce one of our amazing sponsors on the site, Lorraine Daley Wedding Photography.
Our style is photojournalistic fine art photography that is fun, creative, timeless and elegant. We focus on capturing the emotion of the day, while always framing with an artistic eye. We do not do a lot of posing and instead seek authentic moments throughout the day. Even though our style is very cohesive, we truly try to capture the unique energy of the couple without imposing our agenda on the day. It is a celebration of their love and we seek to capture their personalities and interaction. We feel truly blessed to do what we do!

Lorraine is based in Philadelphia, but loves destination weddings and will go anywhere to shoot your wedding. Check out her website or blog to see more of her beautiful images.
It is always a wonderful day when I have the opportunity to feature work from Miss Pickles Press. I featured Jen’s wedding this time last year on Once Wed and it’s been really exciting to see her design business thrive and grow over the last year. Our wedding today is all the way from the lovely state of Arkansas. Jen was kind enough to share a few details behind the sweet celebration below..
Charlie and Ryan’s first date was a multi-state road trip (can you imagine?) and the rest is history. They are extensive travelers and when I last spoke with them, have applied for service in the peace corps. Just amazing people with big hearts. The wedding invitation was a double sided 11×17 poster that was folded like a road map, bound with orange spice colored yarn and delivered in a kraft mailer. Their story of how they met and fell in love is written like a story on the poster.
The RSVPs were vintage styled postcards of glacier national park in the early 1900s (where the groom worked) and another one featuring turn-of-the-century images of Blackfeet Indians in their tee-pees (the Indian tribe they worked with while at the reservation) which was very meaningful to them. We wanted guests to unfold the invitation just like a road map, so it had all kinds of crazy folds to it.

The ceremony programs were slipped inside of pretty cotton muslin bags. I hand stamped them with a vintage lace pattern, and they were hung from a tree in the yard where they were married. They were married on their family farm property across from a cotton field in Arkansas. Every detail of the ceremony (with the exception of paper goods) was DIY, even down to the food that family pitched in to make for all to enjoy.

Our reception took place in my parents’ yard. My parents are avid gardeners and had spend the better part of the summer tending to flowers and manicuring the lawn. My husband and I chose to make most of the details ourselves, from the letterpressed invitations to the tiny sock monkey couple that topped our cake. We are blessed to have many loving friends and family members who were willing to pitch in and help us put together such a special day. My maid of honor and I purchased the flowers at the local market and friends helped us put together bouquets and table arrangements. The scrumptious Greek feast was home cooked by friends and family.

My husband serenaded me with the first song of the evening and his band mates played the song for our first dance. I’ll never forget the look on the band members’ faces when my relatives showered the dance floor with dollar bills (an odd Greek-American tradition). We are also very fortunate to have such wonderfully talented photographers as friends. We love our wedding photos and will always cherish these beautifully documented moments.
Thank you again to evs media for sharing these gorgeous images with us. And to Yota and Joe for letting us take a peek into your beautiful celebration! We wish you lots of love and happiness for many years to come.
