Relaxed Elopement in the Redwoods

Today’s wedding is really special to us because it’s the wedding of our very own graphic designer, Kaela. We love Kaela and Jonathan so much and are thrilled that Ginny Au created the perfect day for them last fall. Keep reading for more about their love story from Kaela herself.

From the bride:

I’ve always heard it said that you find what you’re looking for when you stop looking. I met my greatest adventure sitting outside of a college fraternity party. Yes, it is as eloquent as it sounds. Our relationship began in a soft and simple way. I was stubborn. He was patient. I talked incessantly. He listened. We quickly became best friends and before I knew it, we were standing across from one other making our promises in a place more stunning than I could have ever imagined.

Distance has always seemed to play a rather large part in our relationship. Only months after dating, I moved to Australia. I remember the feeling before I boarded the plane to Sydney, my hands were trembling and my eyes were bursting with tears. It was one of those moments that you can feel in your stomach with the most profound sense of clarity. I knew he would be the one I wanted to spend this life with.

Three years later, Jonathan proposed in Iceland amongst the black sand and harsh, rugged mountains. It was just the two of us in a place so beautiful that words seem futile. While our wedding day was rather untraditional by most, it held true to the way our engagement began. When the day arrived, I felt an overwhelming sense of serenity. While we made breakfast, I was embarrassingly giddy to the point my cheeks were aching. The whole day progressed slowly and I remember thinking, ‘you have to remember this part” about a hundred times. We exchanged our vows to one another beneath a blanket of Oregon Redwoods along the Columbia River Gorge. I’ve never felt so small, yet so full. Our wedding day was exactly what we had always hoped it would be. It is what I hold in my mind as the perfect day.

Classic Outdoor Wedding With California Flair

Taylor and Richard hosted a classic outdoor wedding, and underneath the California skies, everything seems flawless. Their elegant use of blush and tan hues, the gentlemen in tuxedos, the vineyard setting and al fresco dining comes together in a classic, beautiful event. Read on for more from the event designer.

From the event designer, The Lifestyled Company:

“From the moment Taylor and I started spatting off some of our favorite wedding looks, I knew that we were going to make magic together. The bride and groom knew a ceremony in the front of the venue followed by reception in the backyard would suit their guests best. As their wedding stylist, I knew this gave many opportunities to create memorable vignettes for their guests. While guests walked through the Villa and into the back patio area for the cocktail hour, they were met with an original buffet piece of furniture where we adorned the vintage mirror with custom gold vinyl lettering and rusted vintage keys revealing the guests’ table assignments. The drawers of the buffet were stuffed with fresh stems and greenery offering an alluring scent. Overall we wanted a natural romantic feel. We chose soft neutral colors that were highlighted by rich, natural textures.”

Simple California Engagement Photography

It’s the time of year when many couples are practicing for their wedding photos with an engagement session. This is such wonderful time for you to connect with your photographer, get to know each other, and become calm in front of the camera, while at the same time having portraits taken that will serve as reminders of a very special time in your life. Kali and Dylan’s engagement session was taken in the Santa Ynez Valley, and we love how the pastoral setting complements their simple wardrobe choices and infectious smiles.

From the photographer, Adrian Michael:
“I had a blast with Kali and Dylan wandering the gorgeous hills of the Santa Ynez Valley in California. Dylan is an amazing musician, and I asked him to bring his guitar along. They are one of the kindest couples I’ve ever met, so full of happiness and love! It had poured rain all morning while I was location scouting, but thankfully it stopped just before the shoot started. We all got soaked feet, but you couldn’t dampen the spirits of these two!”
