Dreamy Destination Wedding in Mallorca

We are obviously living vicariously through Ling and David’s dreamy destination wedding in Mallorca today, and reliving our time there a few years ago. This destination is truly one to daydream about — the island is so much more than just incredibly beautiful. We love that the couple chose to highlight the area in the details of their wedding: a soft palette for the bridesmaids’ attire fit in beautifully with the washed out sandstone architecture, locally grown produce was served to their guests, and of course, the couple’s wedding photos prominently feature the landscape.

So why did they choose Mallorca? Ling says, “I visited Mallorca for the first time with my mom last year. I was stunned by how beautiful the island was and knew that I wanted to bring Dave at some point. Because our family and friends are scattered all over the world — Hong Kong, Singapore, New York, San Francisco, Melbourne, Zurich, London, Suriname — we thought it would be great to have a destination wedding somewhere exotic that the majority of our guests had never been to. That way, everyone could have a mini holiday as well!”

“As soon as Ling got in touch with me and from the first moment we Skyped, I knew this was going to be a very special wedding. Ling and Dave are laid back and fun but at the same time they know what they want and they have very clear idea of the style they want to go for. They met in New York in the summer of 2013 on a night out in Soho with a group of mutual friends. Ling said in her wedding speech, ”It was definitely not love at first sight,” and that Dave actually refused to talk to her for the first two hours, claiming she looked like a “mean girl.” Several drinks later, Dave asked Ling out, realizing his first impression of Ling was wrong and the rest, as they say, is history. I flew over to Mallorca few days before the wedding day so we had plenty of time to go over all the details and to shoot an engagement session around the gorgeous salt flats of Mallorca, Salinas, and around my favorite hotel grounds, Font Santa Hotel and Spa. Shooting and being around Ling and Dave for 2 days before the wedding made them even more relaxed and happy on the wedding day. They felt super comfortable and happy with me and the cameras following them. We seriously had so much fun!

The wedding took place at gorgeous rural Finca called Son Berga. It’s a dream location for any photographer. Stone walls, gorgeous washed out sandstone colors, an olive garden and stunning view overlooking Mallorca’s hills and mountains. Everything was simply perfect. Mandy Lago, the couple’s wedding planner, is a real perfectionist. The ceremony area looked incredibly beautiful, Ling’s theme of white and gold was beautifully incorporated into the color palette of the venue. The tables, details, and decorations were so easy to photograph. It felt casual and rustic but at the same time timeless and romantic.

Ling and Dave wanted their guests to experience the Mediterranean cuisine and get the real feeling of Mallorca. Food and wine were simply divine, with locally sourced products, a fab wine selection, platters of Mallorquin Jamon Iberico and local cheese and olive selection. Ling and Dave did not see the wedding venue until the day before the wedding. But they both said they trusted their wedding planner, and they knew everything would be simply amazing thanks to all the suppliers they’d chosen. Ling says: “Communication is key. It’s better to over-communicate. Don’t expect the planner to know what you are thinking about. You have to really get each other. And finding the perfect wedding planner is the most important. Once you find each other and click you can simply let go and enjoy the experience!” I also asked the couple what was their best idea and they said: “Investing in live entertainment! We had a string quartet for our wedding ceremony, a Spanish guitarist for dinner, a party band for after dinner and a DJ for the after party. It was pricey but worth every penny.”
