This has to be one of my favorite weeks yet on Once Wed. The response from this wedding been amazing, which doesn’t come as a surprise because Chelsea, Tec, and Jose are all insanley talented individuals. Chelsea has brought the fire again today with 4 posts filled with DIY ideas and more details behind their wedding, so I’ve decided to devote the entire day again to Oh My Deer posts.
Look out for Laurie’s weekly DIY feature tomorrow plus Chelsea will finish off the week sharing more about her lovely business, Oh My Deer. Chelsea, you are amazing! Thank you so much again for putting everything together for Once Wed…

usually completely in sync. So when it came time to plan the wedding,
there was no question: a barn in the country. And even though neither
of us were exactly sure about what that really looked like, as we made
our big decisions (photographer, caterer, location), everything else
just sort of fell in place. It also helped that we knew how we wanted
the wedding to feel. Making sure that the wedding was always very "us"
really helped keep everything comfortable and casual and… us.
some respects, one thing that we do mirror one another in is money:
we’ve got Bloomingdales taste on a Wal-Mart budget. And though our
budget played a huge role in our wedding, and while I know a lot of
brides are discouraged if they have a tight budget to work with, I
honestly feel that it challenged Tec and I to be more creative with our
wedding instead of just buying or hiring whatever and whoever everyone
else was. (To be honest with you, we love to brag about a good deal.)
So to work within our budget, Tec and I prioritized. Unsurprisingly,
the photographer and the location were numbers one and two. We knew
that if we could be happy with those two things, we could work
everything else out.
As it turned out, our photographer(the incredible Jose Villa) ended up to be
our only "splurge." And though it was a pretty hefty chunk of our
budget, we would do it again in a heartbeat. We will have those images
for the rest of our lives, and I am not only in love with them, but I
can’t imagine our day being captured any other way. But after Jose was hired and the estimate for the food and rentals was
in, it was operation "cut-as-many-corners-as-possible." And so we
did! Our venue was the farm of an acquaintance who let us use it for
free; we had the ceremony and the reception at the same location; my
mom made the bouquets and boutonnieres (and those flowers were bought
from Whole Foods); Tec and the groomsmen’s ties were from a thrift
store; my shoes were from a discounted department store; I borrowed my
sister’s veil; the flowers decorating the tables were from my
grandparent’s garden; we bartered with friends to have them video,
sing, and deejay at the wedding; I bought my jewelry from an Etsy
vendor… the list goes on and on! The point to this is that just
because you’re working with a small amount of money, it doesn’t mean
that your wedding has to be anything less than what it should or can
be–it just takes some work and creativity!

I am an incredibly visual person, and
for the first few months of our engagement, I only had thoughts
floating around in my head, but nothing concrete. To help me really
visualize how I wanted the wedding to look, I followed suit of some of
my recently found wedding blogs and created an inspiration board. I’m
sure this is nothing new to you readers, but it rocked my world. All
of a sudden, I had direction and a clear vision of the day. Though
this board shows my wedding being much more green than
it actually was, it gave me a great place to start and helped me keep
my thoughts straight. The images of the fabrics were the actual
fabrics we’d already purchased (used as our backdrop for portraits), so
including them with found images was really helpful.
and I’m not sure if you need that info, but if you do, here are links
