Darling Dexter Table
I don’t think there is anyone in the wedding blog world who wasn’t inspired by Whitney’s absolutely precious wedding this past October, so I was thrilled when she agreed to lend her talents to Once Wed and create a table for our Table Trends series. Not only is Whitney’s table that perfect balance of charm and creativity, but I admire how she really went above and beyond to include elements that were unique and easy to implement/recreate. DIY can be very intimidating for some people(i.e moi), but Whitney really took this project to heart and created something that is beautiful and approachable. Whitney, thank you for another amazing source of inspiration!

When Emily
approached me about contributing to her Table Trends feature, I was
instantly excitied and equally overwhelmed. There have been some lovely
tables so far and I wanted to contribute in a unique way. Coming off
the heels of my own wedding and being the sole decorator from head to
toe, I wanted to take that experience as the motivating factor in the
table I created.
overwhelmed by the DIY wedding movement because she didn’t have a
strong ability to "craft" - yet at the same time felt burdened by the
price of hiring professionals to do the work. So, she felt stuck. She
inspired me to create a table that sort of found a middle balance.
Finding DIY projects that didn’t require an immense amount of skill,
but were also cheap solutions for those on a budget.
for the table runner. I find that when I am trying to start a new
project and need inspiration, the best place to go is the fabric store!
There are endless sources of textures, colors, patterns, etc..and
choosing a fabric can really lay the foundation for the rest of the
design. I chose a Robert Kaufman fabric, "Hot Couturier," from a local
fabric shop here in Chapel Hill, NC.
touch–however, fancy chandeliers or dramatic flowers can be pricey. So
I made doilie chandeliers. I picked up a pack of small paper doilies
from the local craft store, a little bit of fishing line, and two
different sized embroidery hoops to create the fixtures. Because the
paper is so lightweight, any type of movement made doilies twirl (which
was a beautiful effect).
place setting–sitting a small favor jar of chocolate covered peanuts
on the center of a doilie followed by a yellow napkin.
I used the wood embroidery hoops in the doilie chandeliers, I thought
it might be interesting to carry that texture elseware on the table. I
bought 2×4′s from Lowe’s Hardware, stained them with one coat and
placed the wood under the centerpieces.
milk-jug centerpiece is a vintage piece I found–I’ve always loved the
idea of finding different vintage containers to use as centerpieces.
Thanks for this gorgeous post, Emily. Love the centerpiece idea with the glass bottles.
I love it! And it is wonderful becuase it is so doable :)
That’s a wonderful table. Is it weird that I set the table at my house all the time in different ways just for dinner?
Whitney, your table is absolutely lovely! Thank you so much for sharing!!
i LOVE this table. and those doilie chandeliers … swoon. i might need a few of those for my house.

What are those amazing plants, please?
these are precious! i love these!
so pretty and the photography is lovely.
Wow—what a gorgeous setting! And I really loved reading all the thought and planning that went into it. I’m the same way when I walk into a fabric store—like a kid in a candy shop really!
The doily pendants are simply inspired. Amazing job!
Where did you find those small favor jar? So cute!
