Reception Tables

Lalalaurie Table Trends

ACF98ED

Laurie has been such a huge part of Once Wed since the beginning, so naturally when I launched this project she was one of the first bloggers I asked to create a table on a budget for our series. It shouldn’t come as a suprise that Laurie went all out with the handmade details and vintage color palette for her Table Trends feature today. Even though Laurie is a floral designer by day, she decided to incorporate paper flowers over fresh flowers because of its versatility and easiness on the budget. Stay tuned for her DIY project next week because it is all about sweets and packaging. Laurie, thank you so much for another amazing source of inspiration!

I do like the notion of the sweet-heart  table (a small table just
for the bride and groom) at a wedding reception.  It’s an intimate
place for the bride and groom to share their first married meal, gazing
at each other, surrounded by a sea of tables filled with all their
loved ones. When Emily asked me to contribute to the Table Trends
feature, I knew that was the kind of table I wanted to design.  I also
knew I wanted it to be filled with many details that might only be
noticed by a couple sitting close.

I love the process of looking, gathering and collecting.   I love
making things.   I love tiny details, because they show you care.    I
wanted all of this to be part of the table.

Thank you very much for this opportunity, Emily.  I enjoyed every single step of the process.

For the focal point of the table, I began with two tiered faux bouis desert trays (from Target) and attached a garland made of paper leaves, vintage silk lily of the valley stems (from Papier Valise),
and fresh orange ilex berries to create a small arch.    For the tops
of the stands, I crafted two birds to roost.   The trays are filled
with hand-made crepe paper flowers and paper foil wrapped chocolates
trimmed with paper punch-outs of birds, flowers, and leaves.

The same crepe paper flowers surround the base of the trays along with bits of ilex, and paper-wrapped votive cups.

The bridal toss bouquet acts as a floral centerpiece on the table.
It’s made of crepe paper flowers, silk lily of the valley stems,
vintage crochet buttons, hannah silk ribbon,  Midori velvet ribbon, and velvet flowers and velvet leaves from Nancy’s Sewing Basket, Seattle.

The dishes came from the holiday collection at World Market.   In the center, they have a lovely outline drawing of birds in a tree.    The napkins are vintage and from Private Screening
in Seattle.  They’re tied off with hannah silk ribbon and lace with a
covered fabric button accent and a stem of orange ilex berries.

The dotted blue glass tumblers are available at Pier 1.  The demi tass cups and saucers are vintage luster ware, a thrift store find.

The place mats are made of two layered papers stitched between two
layers of netting.  The blue "Cherry Blossom"  wrapping paper is from Midori  and the scalloped edge is made from Hambly’s "Grandma’s Wallpaper" scrap book paper.  (the same paper used on the votive cups).

The vintage purse came from Trash Can Annie’s, a vintage clothing store in my home town, Davenport, IA.

I found the orange floral print fabric from the upholstery section of JoAnns.
I used gold crocheted lace  to trim the edge of the fabric.    The
table runner is made of a heavy crepe paper and adorned with a
crocheted lace border and crepe paper medallions.    In the center of
the medallions, I stitched down  tatted lace circles (a rummage sale
find).

For the favors, I covered the boxes with decorative paper and trimmed
them with lace, paper leaves, and a crepe paper medallion with a shell
button center.   Inside the favor boxes is a pair of vintage salt and
pepper shakers.

If  anyone would care to see more pictures of the table, I have oodles of them posted here.   Later, I’ll be posting more of them on my blog.
