Winter Wedding in Vermont II

Real Weddings

I opted for simple decorations: a few vintage elements, cream colored linens, candles and pale flowers for a warm twinkly treehouse feel. The food and drink were warm and luscious. We had the ceremony by the gallery’s fireplace, filled with candles and a few woodsy hints of pinecones & moss. The cocktail hour was in the  main gallery space – which had a modern vibrant exhibit – offering a great venue change. Guests took fabulous candid shots at an impromptu “photobooth” with our photographer’s wife and they danced and dinned into the snow-blown evening.

I spent hours at antique stores (and even found my wedding band at one) searching for sweet old linen and cotton tablecloths and napkins. Vintage vases, pony horse-shoes and lavender adorned the tables. Ring pillows were made from a felted gray sweater with velvet ribbon and a small piece of vintage lace from my great-grandmother’s wedding dress. My phenomenal soon-to-be step sons (pictured mustached) were the ring bearers and our wedding party. Hurricane lanterns and vases were trimmed with lace, velvet ribbon and vintage music paper. The cupcakes and cake were made my my friend, Sarah (a former baker). I designed and quilted a wedding chuppah for her summer wedding and she returned the favor with sweets. Wedding barters are the absolute best – infused with love! In the end, it’s exactly what everyone says, time whips by and you try to steal a few moments. And we must have cashed in all of our weather-luck because as guests arrived – many for for New Years Eve – so did a constant snow that was light enough to be walkable but coated our weekend wedding with a hint of magic.

Vendors: These folks really made the night come together. For any bride looking for a Vermont wedding, I think they’re the best.

Yum, I think her beautiful, simple dress is Saja. I’m now regretting shelling out three times as much on a Lela Rose sample. But I regret something every time I look at this site!

Oh I was about to ask who made the dress. It’s gorgeous and exactly what I would want. Thank you Melissa.

Such a magical wedding! I love all the little details – you can tell so much love and thought was put into every aspect.

Great pictures! I love the shoes. Would you mind sharing the designer and/or where you found them?

Love the vintage look! Great job of pulling the look altogether with your decor, flowers, and cakes! Happy Wedding!

Thank you all for the wonderful comments! I spent so much time on little details, it’s a treat to have Emily put it all together and read your responses. Oncewed and a few wedding blogs were my continual inspiration for crafting a unique celebration. It’s a wonderful community of incredibly talented women – and I look forward to searching and following all of your blogs too!

The screen of lights was something Burlington City arts put up. I believe it was just xmas lights strung up and down and then a simple organza curtain in front. The effect was incredible and with the candles, we didn’t use any overhead lights. Lisa might chime in with more details.

oh, and Saja, I cannot recommend highly enough! My girlfriends and I had a fabulous visit and the quality and design of their dresses are amazing. I wore a light cashmere shawl for the ceremony (tied behind my back so it looks like sleeves in some photos). I made a little silk belt and attached vintage rhinestone brooches. And my outdoor cape was a faux fur vintage cape from etsy.com.
