A Sweet Backyard Wedding
I recently received this sweet backyard wedding from the talented Sarah Yates Photography. The lovely Megan from La Partie Events, a Once Wed favorite, not only styled this wedding but also created the charming florals. I especially love that this couple chose to get married in the bride’s childhood backyard…such a great way to save money and also so special to walk down the aisle on the same yard where you used to play out your wedding as a little girl.
Here’s a little more about all the charming details from Megan…
Kelly and Steve wanted their wedding to be cozy, meaningful and fun so they decided to have it at Kelly’s childhood home (where her wonderful parents still live). The ceremony was held in their front yard, which already had so much natural beauty, we decided to not overwhelm the space with too much decor. Her grandmother’s secretary held cards for guests to write wishes to the couple and the front yard’s picnic table held lemonade for guests to stay refreshed while waiting for the ceremony to begin. Kelly’s father and her groom Steve built beautiful cocktail tables for the area and we used her mother’s galvanized tin containers to hold flowers in for the cocktail hour.
The bridesmaids wore bright dresses and beautiful jewelry from JCrew. Kelly’s dress was a classic and elegant by Monique Lhuillier. Kelly wanted her bouquet to look like something she picked from their garden so we kept it simple with white hydrangeas and fresh rosemary. Rosemary from her mother’s yard also accented each place setting and each ceremony program.
More of Kelly and Steve’s lovely reception coming up next…
If my childhood home backyard looked like that, I’d be more than thrilled to use it for my wedding too! Backyard weddings are such a great way to save money but you have to know someone with an amazing (and large) backyard.
Hey M! True. Having an amazing backyard certainly helps, but if you grew up in the city or apartment and want a backyard feel to your wedding try calling your local park services to see if you can rent part of a local park for your wedding day. I know in Atlanta there are quite a few areas you can rent(including a gorgeous duck pond park right in the city) for a very reasonable price.
Sometimes having a backyard wedding can save money because you are skipping on a site fee, but then you also have to add in rentals, catering, port-a-potties, generators, and possible permits!
sooo pretty though! (forgot to add that in, didn’t want to sound negative!)
Wow, I really love the setting of this place – I’m drooling over the tables.
What a beautiful bride!! That groom is the luckiest guy in the world!
sarah yates rocks my world ;)
I wish that was my backyard. Sigh. It was a magical place to have a wedding.
Lovely, as always, with Miss Sarah. Love the contrast of the dark tables with the super bright florals and the Kale– love the Kale!
Sarah ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!! Shes finds colors and light that the eye cant see. She’s a true artist behind a lens. Romantic, soft and ethereal. Perfection. Especially the last shot… with the way she plays with the fore/mid/background and depth of field with punches of color for interest. Bravo Sarah!
